Ernest Tucker was given drugs when he was twelve years old and has not been the same since. He is in love with his sister Minnie and is determined that she won’t have any other men in her life except him.
While he is totally dominated by Minnie and does everything she tells him to do, his love for Minnie drives him to acts of violence that Minnie has to cover up.
Minnie has always covered up for Ernest, but there is a limit to how much more she can take of his obsessive nature.
Yet despite everything, Ernest knows that Minnie will not desert him, will not go to the police about him, and that she will use his reputation as the village idiot as the means to pretend to everyone else that he is as harmless, not a killer.
Minnie Tucker is a Somerset girl who has been trapped all her life on the farm she has inherited from her grand-parents. She wears her heart on her sleeve and is in love with married man Mark Wainwright who uses her as he pleases.
Ernest, her half wit brother who is jealous of Mark, prevents Minnie from having the life she real wants. Ernest cannot be trusted to be left on his own because he is dysfunctional.
Minnie feels totally caged in and constantly reminds Ernest that he is ruining her life. The farm fails to provide them with an income, and the poverty of their situation requires that Minnie takes in bed and breakfast guests to make ends-meet. Ernest does not like this, but Minnie is determined that they are not going to lose the farm at any cost.
