Isla St Clair takes centre stage at Drumlanrig Castle.
The famed Scottish singer Isla St.Clair took centre stage at Drumlanrig Castle in July to sing Red Rose, the title track of the film, called Red Rose about the poet Robert Burns. Isla plays the part of Lady Miller a patron friend of Robert Burns and as part of her character she sings the tune to an audience of gentry. Isla is making a return to acting and singing. When she agreed to sing My Love is Like a Red Red Rose, Palm Tree jumped at the chance of getting her on board. Her rendition of the song in the grounds of Drumlanrig was beautiful and perfect in tone.
Despite recent events at the Castle with the Leonardo picture, security staff at Drumlanrig were very thorough and professional.’ We could not film in the interiors and we were confined to certain areas of the grounds. In consultation with the security staff we filmed after hours when the public were not attending the castle, traffic was stopped to allow for a special shot of a horse drawn carriage moving along the dramatic ‘Queens Way’. One of the part time staff even took a small acting role later in the film, once the Drumlanrig scenes were completed. Robbie Moffat the film director, amazed at the grandeur of the setting, said that he was grateful to the ‘Duke’ for agreeing to the filming.
Red Rose strikes deal with Ian Rattray Distribution
Respected distributor Ian Rattray will represent Palm Tree, brokering UK and International distribution rights for the project. This is a new area for Ian Rattray , who is normally known in the industry for ‘sub-distribution’ and booking prints into British cinema’s. In the case of Red Rose, Ian will not sub-distribute, or act as a print booker, instead he will represent the film to the major international film distributor’s and begin to sell the film rights all over the world. Moffat, the film’s director is delighted with this move as it will ensure that the film is seen both at home and abroad. Whilst this is a departure from his normal duties Ian Rattray is excited by the challenge. Of the project he says’ being Scottish myself, selling a film about Robert Burns is exciting - it gives me an added sense of commitment to the project. I have already seen the rushes and they are excellent - I am delighted to be working with Palm Tree.’ Lady Glenridell (Pat Ford) eavesdrops at Dildawn House.
